the past
Hippies n. colloq. - a person of unconventional appearance,
typically with long hair, jeans, beads etc., often associated with rejection

I have never made any attempt
to hide the fact that my parents were Hippies through the 60s and 70s
and that they retain many of the carefree and liberated outlooks remaining
from those days gone by. In fact it is kinda cool most of the time. However
I feel I must now share with my friends and visitors to this site the
latest twist in the behaviour of my relics (I mean relatives).
Seeing as both my brother and
I have now left the comfy nest of our parental home it would seem that
our calming influence has left and our parents are once again experiencing
the carefree and abandon of their youths (this being their second youth!!).
What I am trying to say is
where once they took a long-wheelbase Landrover (painted yellow) across
Marocco with friends. Flowers in their hair and flared-trousers that covered
up for the fact that Dad was wearing Jesus-creeper sandles and Mum was
bare footed. They now have, in their "Vintage Hippy" status
invested in a camper-caravan.
"Not so
bad!" I hear you say...
Prey let me continue
my tail...
You see I thought
it novel the first time a phoned my parents at the weekend only to find
them having breakfast in the campervan on the South Downs near Eastbourne
(only 30 odd miles from where they live).
A fortnight later
I call again to find where their travels have taken them this weekend
only to get the following reply,
"We are in Andora and there is 2 foot of snow! You would really love
it here! We are heading towards Portugal!"
Now maybe its
me but I found one week Eastbourne (30 miles) the next week Portugal (1500
miles) just a little bizzare.
Anyway, good on
them, I guess I'm only jealous I haven't got the time to join them. So
without further ado I have placed a few of their photos from their travels
(working title - Vintage Hippies do Spain, VHS) on the following page.
I must say that
Mums photography has come on considerably, either that or these new digital
cameras you can get really do do everything for you!!
To
the VHS gallery...
